Overtchat brings simplified local LLM chat to non-technical users

Overtchat, a new MIT-licensed self-hosted chat interface, strips down the feature stack to focus on core conversation flow for local language models. Launched this week on GitHub with a single Docker Compose file, the project bundles Searxng web search and Kokoro text-to-speech—no API keys required. The developer tested the setup on a four-GPU 3090 rig running Qwen 3.6 27B and designed the UI as a progressive web app optimized for mobile.
The pitch centers on polish over feature breadth. Where Open WebUI, LibreChat, and LobeChat lean into agentic workflows and developer tooling, Overtchat aims for a ChatGPT-style experience that non-technical household users can adopt without friction. The interface prioritizes a clean conversation view and minimal configuration surface. Mobile PWA support means the interface installs to home screens and runs offline once cached. No telemetry is built in.
The developer acknowledges using AI assistance during development but emphasizes active debugging and review to avoid code quality issues. The GitHub repository includes the Searxng configuration the project ships with, tested against common web search use cases.
