Most "uncensored AI image generator" articles point at SaaS wrappers that change filter policy every quarter. This list points at the models — open-weights checkpoints that you download once and run locally, so nobody can flip a switch on you later. All seven entries below are in the UncensoredHub catalog, are listed as \nsfw\ or \unrestricted\ content level, and have verified VRAM requirements and license terms.
Content is NSFW-capable. The ranking below assumes that's what you came for — and covers how the models differ in style, hardware footprint, and commercial-use terms.
How we ranked these
These picks are not a popularity contest. We filtered the catalog to image checkpoints flagged \nsfw\ or \unrestricted\, then sorted on four criteria:
- Output quality — sample galleries in \
model_images\and community consensus on Civitai and r/StableDiffusion. - License clarity — whether the commercial-use terms are documented and enforceable. CreativeML Open RAIL-M and model-specific Civitai licenses both qualify; "unclear" does not.
- VRAM footprint — models you can actually run. SDXL checkpoints mostly live in 6–10 GB; Flux variants need 12–24 GB.
- Ecosystem — how many compatible LoRAs, how documented the prompt style, how active the community.
We did not use download count as a ranking signal directly — it favours older models. It's in the comparison table below, but did not decide the order.
Our top picks
1. Pony Diffusion XL — Best overall for stylized and anime content
Pony Diffusion XL is the default anchor of the uncensored anime ecosystem. Built on SDXL, trained on roughly 2.6M images across anime, cartoon, furry and pony datasets with a 1:1 ratio of safe / questionable / explicit ratings [[1]](#ref-pony) . The \score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up\ prompt convention it introduced is still the reference style dozens of downstream merges inherit.
If you want anime, stylized, or NSFW pose control — this is the base model to start with. It is not a photoreal model; for that, see Juggernaut XL or RealVisXL below.
- Base: SDXL · VRAM: 6 / 8 GB · License: CreativeML Open RAIL-M · NSFW level: unrestricted
- Community: 4.2M+ downloads across platforms; the LoRA ecosystem is the largest of any uncensored SDXL model.
2. Juggernaut XL — Best photoreal SDXL baseline
Juggernaut XL is the photoreal counterpart to Pony. Also built on SDXL, it's the most-downloaded single SDXL checkpoint on Civitai and is the checkpoint most "photoreal" LoRA chains expect as their base. Juggernaut does not evolve in the direction of explicit content — explicit outputs come from LoRAs stacked on top.
Best when you want realistic portraits, skin detail, product shots, or a neutral base for a chain of photoreal LoRAs. For dedicated NSFW photoreal generation, pair it with a Civitai LoRA or consider Pony Realism (#5 below).
- Base: SDXL · VRAM: 6 / 8 GB · License: CreativeML Open RAIL-M · NSFW level: unrestricted
- Ecosystem: the widest LoRA compatibility in the SDXL photoreal space.
3. DreamShaper XL — Best all-rounder
DreamShaper XL sits between stylized and photoreal. It handles illustration, mixed-media, and mild NSFW without the prompt-style cliffs that a pure anime or pure photoreal model imposes. If you don't know which aesthetic you want yet — or you're routinely switching — DreamShaper is the low-friction start.
Downsides: it's not the best at any one thing. For a specific look, specialized models (#1 for anime, #2/#4 for photoreal) produce stronger outputs.
- Base: SDXL · VRAM: 6 / 8 GB · License: CreativeML Open RAIL-M · NSFW level: nsfw
- Verified in the UncensoredHub catalog; 3.1M+ downloads.
4. RealVisXL — Best for photorealistic portraits
RealVisXL is a tighter-focused photoreal alternative to Juggernaut. Stronger skin detail out-of-the-box, more consistent facial anatomy, better with controlled lighting. Where Juggernaut is a "boring reliable" generic photoreal, RealVis is the pick when you need the image to read as a photograph.
NSFW output is possible but unstable without a supporting LoRA. This is a portrait/body model, not a pose-specific one.
- Base: SDXL · VRAM: 6 / 8 GB · License: CreativeML Open RAIL-M · NSFW level: unrestricted
5. Pony Realism — Best Pony-based photoreal
Pony Realism fills the gap between Pony and Juggernaut: photoreal output but with Pony's pose-control vocabulary (score tags, explicit rating system, LoRA compatibility). If you want Pony's prompt ergonomics but not its anime bias, start here.
The license is more restrictive than the CreativeML models above — Civitai Commercial (images-only). Read the license before building anything commercial on it.
- Base: Pony (SDXL derivative) · VRAM: 6 / 10 GB · License: Civitai Commercial (images only) · NSFW level: unrestricted
6. Fluxed Up — Best Flux-based uncensored
Flux is the newer architecture (2024, from Black Forest Labs) and its ecosystem is still forming. Fluxed Up is one of the more mature Flux NSFW checkpoints, combining Flux's stronger prompt adherence with uncensored training data. Hand anatomy is noticeably better than on SDXL models.
The trade-off is hardware. Flux models need 12 GB VRAM minimum, 24 GB for full FP16 quality. If you're on an 8 GB card, skip Flux for now.
- Base: FLUX · VRAM: 12 / 24 GB · License: Civitai Commercial (images only) · NSFW level: unrestricted

7. LUSTIFY! — Best NSFW-focused community checkpoint
LUSTIFY! is an SDXL checkpoint trained specifically for NSFW output — not a generalist model that happens to allow it. The community prompt library is narrower than Pony's but hits harder within its scope.
Use when you want NSFW-native behavior without relying on LoRAs on top of a generalist base. Not the right choice for SFW work — the bias is visible.
- Base: SDXL · VRAM: 6 / 10 GB · License: Civitai Commercial (images only) · NSFW level: unrestricted

Choose by use case
If you want anime or stylized art
Start with Pony Diffusion XL. Its prompt vocabulary (score tags) is the reference the rest of the ecosystem is built on, and the LoRA library is the largest. For photoreal with Pony ergonomics, use Pony Realism.
If you want photorealism
Juggernaut XL is the safest baseline — widest LoRA compatibility, neutral prompt style. RealVisXL when portraits need to read as photographs. Both fit on an 8 GB GPU.
If you have 24 GB of VRAM and want the newest architecture
Fluxed Up — stronger prompt adherence, better hand anatomy. Skip it below 12 GB VRAM.
If you want commercial-usable output
CreativeML Open RAIL-M permits commercial use with specific restrictions (no illegal content, no harassment, standard AI-content clauses). That's the group: Pony Diffusion XL, Juggernaut XL, DreamShaper XL, RealVisXL. The Civitai Commercial (images-only) license on Pony Realism, Fluxed Up, and LUSTIFY! is narrower — images yes, further distribution of the checkpoint no.
Before building any product on top of a model's output, read the full license on the model page and, if the stakes are high, consult a lawyer. This list describes what the licenses say; it is not legal advice.
If you need to check hardware compatibility
Every model page has a verified \min_vram_gb\ / \recommended_vram_gb\ pair. The Can I run it? tool takes your GPU and shows which catalog models are realistic for your setup.
